1. Can an NRI/foreigner
drive a vehicle in India on the basis
of any driving license issued by any foreign country?
No, He or She can not. However, if anybody has obtained an IDP from his
own country and his/her country is a signatory to the 1949 Geneva Convention,
and then he/she can drive in India the specified category of vehicle till
the IDP is valid.
2. What is the validity of IDP issued in India?
The validity of IDP is one year from the date of its issue subject to validity of the original driving license.
3. Who can issue IDP?
The Authority who issued the original driving license is the competent authority.
4. How to get an IDP?
One must have a valid driving license and which is at least one year old. You have to appear personally and apply with the following documents:
Air Tickets (optional).
- Original Driving License.
- Application for IDP.
- Original Passport.
- Original Visa.
