The state of West Bengal was created, curving out of the east while State of Bengal
while under British Rule, at the time of the partition in 1947 which coincided with
the freedom of this great country. The state administration is run from the famous
Writers' Buildings at Binoy Badal Dinesh Bag, earlier known as Dalhousie Square. Initially,
the department looking after transport in general was the Home (Transport) Department under
the Home Department. Thereafter, a full fledged Transport Department was created in the early eighties.
